Sahana & Reed: A Tamil Hindu Wedding Filled With Heart, Heritage, and the Kind of Love That Lasts

There are weddings you photograph…
and then there are weddings you feel.

Sahana and Reed’s Tamil Hindu ceremony at the Outlook at Saddleridge in Chesterfield Virginia was one of those experiences that settles into your chest — the kind that stays long after the last blessing is spoken and the last garland is exchanged.

From the moment Reed arrived in his Granddad’s red convertible thunderbird sedan — polished, classic, sentimental — the day already felt different. It wasn’t just an entrance. It was legacy meeting legacy. It was one family’s story rolling up to meet another’s with intentionality and respect.

And the moment those tires stopped, the welcome that followed was nothing short of electric.

A Welcome That Felt Like Family From the Start

Tamil weddings are rich with tradition, ritual, and reverence — but they’re also filled with heart. And that heart showed the moment Sahana’s family met Reed.

They didn’t greet him like an outsider.
They didn’t greet his family like guests.

They greeted them like their own.

You could feel it in the air — the excitement, the joy, the absolute desire for Reed’s parents, grandparents, and siblings to not only feel included… but to feel at home.

Hands that had grown up practicing centuries-old Tamil customs reached out to hold hands that had never seen them before. Smiles translated across accents. Warmth translated across generations. Respect translated without anyone needing to explain a thing.

This is what fusion looks like at its purest:
Not performance.
Not pressure.
Just people choosing each other.

A Ceremony Rooted in Tradition, Elevated by Love

Tamil Hindu ceremonies carry a rhythm all their own — intentional, symbolic, beautifully layered.

But with Sahana and Reed, the ritual didn’t overshadow the relationship.
Their bond amplified everything.

There were moments where Reed looked over at Sahana with the kind of softness you usually only see between childhood friends — the “you’re my person” kind of love that grows and grows and somehow still feels brand new.

There were moments where Sahana lit up, completely unfiltered, reminding everyone that the best brides are the ones who don’t hide who they are — they shine from the place they’ve always been.

And together?
They have this playful, school-days kind of affection — that innocent, dependable, soul-level connection that only deepens with time.
You can’t teach it.
You can’t stage it.
You can only be lucky enough to witness it.

The Regeti Way: Seeing Every Soul in the Room

One of the things we value most — and something we’ve built our entire brand on — is seeing everyone.

Not just the couple.
Not just the planners.
Not just the side of the family who signed the contract.

Everyone.

Because weddings like this…
moments like this…
are created by the whole room.

And on this day, the room showed up beautifully — Tamil elders guiding rituals, Reed’s family absorbing it all with wonder and gratitude, friends laughing, children weaving between chairs, petals falling like blessings from the sky.

We don’t photograph events.
We photograph people.
And this day was filled with extraordinary people.

Two Souls, One Solution

Every once in a while, you meet a couple who feels like they’ve known each other far longer than they actually have.

Sahana and Reed are those people.
They carry a wholeness when they’re together — the kind that tells you their future won’t just survive…
it will thrive.

Their love isn’t loud or performative.
It’s steady.
It’s grounded.
It’s playful.
It’s pure.

The kind of love that’s big enough to honor heritage, gentle enough to create safety, and strong enough to build a lifetime.

And that’s the story we felt honored to witness — and even more honored to document.

There aren't really words for what Alex's face says in this moment — that's a whole lifetime with her dad wrapped up in one look. Moments like this are exactly why we linger a beat longer than we probably need to, camera up, just waiting. We've been doing this a long time and it still gets us every single time.

Being trusted to be someone's eyes and ears on a day this big? That's not something we take lightly, ever. It's the whole reason we show up and give everything we've got, every single event.

If you want photographers who actually feel your day with you, not just document it — let's talk. Drop a comment or DM us to start planning yours.

Alex and Jamie's wedding day started with this gorgeous flat lay at the Ritz Carlton in DC — Jimmy Choos, the invitation suite, those rings tucked into red boxes that just pop against the marble. Planner Sara with SM Events pulled together every little piece so beautifully.

Honestly, we've been photographing details like this for almost two decades, and how couples want them captured has changed so much. Rings on a book, shoes in a window, invites styled with flowers — it's become its own art form. We always wonder: are couples looking back at these images years later and still loving how their day was told? We think that's the real test. Tell us in the comments — what detail from your wedding day means the most to you now?

Am I the only one who watches for this? Every single bride has this one moment under the four pillars where she just... drifts. Eyes down, hands still, somewhere else entirely for a few seconds. I always wonder what's running through her mind right there.

If you're a bride who remembers that exact feeling and you're willing to tell me what you were thinking, I would love to hear it. Drop it in the comments or DM me — we love to collect all these little stories.

Hours of sitting still while this artwork gets created — and that's not even counting all the time spent planning and debating the design beforehand! There's a whole ritual to henna: the patience, the skill of the artist, and that hope that it dries deep and dark because tradition says that means something good for the marriage.

I love catching these quiet in-between moments on getting-ready day — mehndi still fresh, your bridesmaids in search of the lotion in an effort to ease placing them on. Did you hide your fiancé's name somewhere in your design? Tell me in the comments — I want to know if he spotted it right away! And if you're planning a wedding and want a photographer who notices these little details too, send us a DM.

Everyone talks about the lehenga (rightfully so, it's a whole production) but let's talk about the sherwani for a second. The embroidery, the buttons, the fabric selection that has to complement the bride's outfit without competing with it - that's real thought and real time. Hanging it on a wall for a pretty shot doesn't tell that story though. What tells the story is Dad's hands doing up those buttons, that quiet minute before everything gets loud. We always look for it.

WHAT’S IN A PORTRAIT?

Somewhere along the way, the traditional bridal portraits have started disappearing.

Wedding photography became more candid, editorial and movement-driven—and we love all of that. But the portrait should never become collateral damage to a trend.

Long before photography, families commissioned painted portraits to preserve a person for generations. Photography changed who had access to that privilege, but not its purpose.

These are legacy photographs.

That’s why we believe every bride AND groom deserves dedicated portrait time on the wedding timeline—in addition to editorial images, candids, couples portraits and family formals.

There’s another reason we protect this time.

For a bride, everything is finally on. Hair. Makeup. Jewelry. The outfit chosen months ago. And before the doors open, the baraat begins and the beautiful chaos takes over, she gets a few minutes to slow down.

To breathe.
To take it in.
To simply be the bride.

Then we make the portrait.

Because 50 years from now, someone may hold this photograph and say:

“That was my mother.”
“That was my grandmother.”
“Look at her.”

Some photographs aren’t made for a feed.

They’re made for a family.

@sjsevents @ritzcarltontysonscorner
Some details deserve more than a quick photograph.

Wedding rings are one of them.

For many of our Indian-American and fusion couples, the rings are actually part of the blending of traditions that makes their wedding uniquely theirs.

The wedding ring as we commonly recognize it in America is deeply rooted in Western wedding tradition. The circle has represented continuity and eternity for centuries, and the exchange of rings eventually became one of the most recognizable symbols of marriage in Western culture.

And we love watching our couples fold that tradition right alongside everything else.

A mangalsutra.
Sindoor.
Thali.
Toe rings.
Sacred threads.
Garlands.
And these rings.

Different traditions. Different histories. All carrying meaning into the same marriage.

Which is also why we believe the rings deserve more than simply being placed into the obligatory overhead photograph with the invitation, shoes, perfume and jewelry.

Yes, we photograph that too.

But we also want this.

A photograph where the rings themselves become the subject.

Because years from now, these little pieces of metal will have lived an entire life with you. They’ll acquire scratches. Maybe a stone will be reset. A band may eventually be resized. They’ll travel, wash dishes, hold babies, build careers, weather difficult seasons and hopefully still be sitting on those same hands decades from now.

That makes this photograph considerably more sentimental than it may appear today.

Wedding photography isn’t just about proving everything was there.

Sometimes it’s about recognizing what deserves to be remembered on its own.

And these absolutely do.
