Ekta and Deshek’s Engagement Session at the Smithsonian Castle in Washington DC

Ekta and Deshek’s Engagement Session at the Smithsonian Castle in Washington DC

Venue Location: Smithsonian Castle, 1000 Jefferson Dr SW, Washington, DC 20560

Although the castle itself is closed to inside guests, this makes the outside gardens the perfect place to photograph at this moment because everyone seems to think the entire thing is closed, leaving the gardens literally untouched lately! So why wouldn’t we take advantage until security has to personally walk us to the exit at dusk 🙂 that is just what we did as we worked to catch every second of daylight we could as if there was no one else in DC but the four of us.

Ekta and Deshek, I believe, met us at the Shaadi Showcase, which is put on by the wedding planning Dream Shaadi team. So when they reached out and scheduled their Zoom, we had already had an opportunity to meet them and chat a moment at the show itself before Zooming sometime later. I want to even go as far as saying Deshek might have been Zooming with me in his scrubs at the time 🙂 however it was not long before I think we all realized we were the perfect fit. Deshek’s fast-talking wittiness and Ekta’s soft personality made us one of the front runners, and before we knew it, we were blessed with knowing we were the chosen ones to capture their wedding festivities. And I’ll be the first to admit that I talk to a lot of people throughout every year, some just looking to fill a need, meet a budget, or pick up on a current trend. Still, I appreciate the ones who are laser-focused on what they want to be reflected in their imagery, which comes at the time they peruse their images post-wedding day. It is not often that clients can look that far forward and think in such a way. This was Ekta and Deshek for me, so to book this wedding meant so much, as if they sang my heart song on our call. The Smithsonian Gardens was the perfect spot for their session no doubt!

XOXO,

    We are on Instagram
There’s what you see on wedding day.
And then there’s everything that makes us the photographers we are.

This channel is where we share the in-between —
the building, the learning, the late nights,
the marriage that has carried us through nearly two decades of photographing other people’s love stories.

We’re still very much in weddings.
Still shooting.
Still telling stories.
Still showing up for our couples.
But here, you’ll also see how we live, work, problem-solve, and grow together behind the camera —
because who we are off a wedding day shapes how we show up on one.

If you’re planning a wedding,
work in the wedding industry,
or simply love honest conversations about partnership, creativity, and building a life together —
you’ll fit right in.

Christmas in America is culture as much as it is tradition 🤍

It’s family, food, memories, and the people we carry with us — both near and far.

Today’s South Asian Wedded Life episode holds space for engagement, family dynamics, Indo-American life, and the emotions that surface when love and legacy meet.

Sending love to everyone navigating the season in their own way.

YouTube @amyregeti is where the entire heartfelt episode is ... head on over!
🎄 Merry Christmas, SAWL family.
Coming off a wedding weekend always leaves me thoughtful 🤍

Somewhere between unloading camera bags, folding laundry, and realizing Christmas is next week, I found myself replaying a quiet thought I know I’m not alone in…

We shouldn’t have to explain neglect to our kids or visiting family in a place meant to teach reverence.

I finally sat down and talked about it — honestly, gently, and without judgment — in a new episode of SAWL - Spilling the Chai with Amy ☕️

If you’ve ever left a place of worship feeling spiritually full but physically unsettled… this conversation might be for you.
