RP Tip #12: Referred/Preferred Vendors

As we are beginning to book for summer of 2008 we thought that it would only be appropriate to make brides aware of referred/preferred vendors as we are seeing a lot more venues pushing this onto their booking brides. We feel that it is important to educate our clients and those out there planning their weddings in order to avoid conflict as it is not always stated up front by the venue itself.

Some venues charge referral fees to their vendors should the bride be referred to their services via the venue sites prompting. This can often be any where from 10-30% of the clients booking rate and often the client may incur this should they decide not to use a preferred vendor.

The major draw back of this can be if the venue is in fact charging a fee and pushing the vendor simply because they get a small portion from the referral. This can often be found by simply asking “Why it is they like that vendor so much?” Some venues on the other hand do refer genuinely in the best interest of the client and often it is that venue that is more concerned about the quality of service and product that the client receives from the vendor thus the importance of handing out such a list.

We hope that this RP Tip helps you better understand and be aware of how important it is to ask about vendor fees and how the venues referral list actually works.
