Why the Look of South Asian Wedding Photography Is Changing — And Why We’re Leaning Fully Into It
For nearly two decades, South Asian weddings have been some of the most visually spectacular celebrations in the world.
The colors are bold.
The ceremonies are layered with meaning.
The fabrics shimmer.
The gold glows.
The energy is unmatched.

Yet for a long time, the wedding industry — especially in Western publications — didn’t quite know what to do with them.
When we first started photographing Indian weddings years ago, we would often submit images to magazines and wedding blogs hoping to share these incredible celebrations with a broader audience.
And the response was often the same.
“It’s beautiful, but it doesn’t appeal to our readership.”
At the time, the mainstream wedding world was dominated by a very particular aesthetic:
white dresses
neutral palettes
pastel florals
soft garden ceremonies

South Asian weddings — with their vibrant reds, marigolds, emerald greens, and intricate rituals — simply didn’t fit the editorial mold that most publications were curating.
So for years, Indian weddings largely lived in their own world online. They were celebrated within the community, but rarely embraced by the broader wedding media landscape.
But something changed.
And over the last two years in particular, that shift has become impossible to ignore.
The Cultural Shift That Changed Everything
A major part of this evolution has been driven by the global influence of Indian fashion and design.
Designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Tarun Tahiliani have transformed the way the world sees Indian bridal fashion.
Their work isn’t just clothing.
It’s storytelling.
Muted jewel tones.
Hand embroidery.
Heirloom textures.
Historic references woven into modern silhouettes.
At the same time, publications like Vogue India and Vogue began featuring South Asian weddings with the same reverence historically reserved for European-style editorial weddings.
Suddenly the world was seeing Indian weddings differently.
Not as something “too colorful” or “too cultural.”
But as something cinematic.
Layered.
Editorial.
Timeless.
And once that perspective shifted, the entire creative ecosystem surrounding weddings began evolving alongside it.
The Rise of a Softer, Editorial South Asian Aesthetic
For years, South Asian wedding photography often leaned heavily toward a documentary approach.
Capture everything.
Capture it bright.
Capture it bold.
There was a practical reason for that.

Indian weddings move quickly.
Events are packed with rituals.
Lighting conditions change constantly.
The goal was often clarity and coverage above all else.
But today, something more refined is emerging.
A new visual language.
Images are becoming:
• softer in contrast
• more intentional in composition
• more editorial in mood
• more cinematic in tone
Instead of pushing colors to their maximum intensity, the modern aesthetic allows them to breathe.
Gold becomes warmer.
Greens soften.
Oranges deepen into burnished tones.
And the result feels less like event documentation and more like visual storytelling.
This isn’t about muting culture.
It’s about honoring it with elegance.
Why This Direction Feels Personal to Us
When we began our careers, we shot on film.
And film has a very particular relationship with light.
Highlights glow.
Skin tones feel alive.
Colors feel rich but not overwhelming.

When the industry transitioned fully to digital photography, something about that feeling was lost.
Digital cameras were incredible for speed and flexibility, but the images often felt harsher.
Sharper.
More clinical.
For years photographers chased ways to bring back the softness and depth that film naturally produced.
Today, advanced color grading techniques finally allow us to do that.

Through careful editing and custom presets, we can shape digital images in a way that restores the warmth, subtlety, and glow that once defined film photography.
And for us, that’s been an incredibly exciting artistic evolution.
What Is a Preset — And Why It Matters
A preset is essentially a custom color profile applied during photo editing.
Think of it as a signature recipe for light and color.
It determines how an image handles:
• skin tones
• highlights
• shadows
• contrast
• color balance
The right preset doesn’t just “style” an image.
It creates consistency.
Across hundreds — sometimes thousands — of photos in a wedding gallery.
And in South Asian weddings, presets become especially important because of the incredible complexity of color in the environment.
Consider what exists within a single frame:
bright marigold garlands
gold jewelry
deep red bridal lehengas
green foliage
skin tones across many complexions
warm candlelight or stage lighting

Balancing all of that requires a careful approach to color.
The goal isn’t to neutralize the vibrancy of the culture.
It’s to shape the tones in a way that feels regal rather than overwhelming.
Subdued rather than flattened.
Rich rather than saturated.
The Regeti’s New Direction
Over the past year, we’ve spent a tremendous amount of time refining our own aesthetic approach.
Studying light.
Studying color.
Studying the way the modern South Asian wedding world is evolving.
And what we discovered is that this softer, more editorial direction aligns deeply with who we are as artists.
Our goal moving forward is simple.
To create imagery that feels:
timeless
intentional
regal
and deeply human
Images that highlight the beauty of South Asian weddings without overwhelming the viewer.
Images that allow skin tones to glow naturally.
Images that feel as if they belong in an editorial spread — while still preserving the authenticity of the moment.

And Now… Introducing the Debut of The Regeti’s Curated LUXE Line
As our visual style continues to evolve, so too does the way we present and deliver our work.
And with that, we are excited to introduce something new.
The Regeti’s Curated LUXE Line.
Moving forward, every wedding we photograph will continue to receive the same meticulous editing process that has defined our work for years. All delivered images will still be naturally color corrected and white balanced to ensure that the entire gallery reflects the beauty of the day exactly as it unfolded.
But within every wedding collection, there are always moments that rise above the rest.
Moments where the light, emotion, composition, and story align in a way that feels truly extraordinary.
In the past, many of you knew these images as RP FAVS.
From this point forward, those signature selections will become something more intentional.
They will now be known as the TR LUXE Line — The Regeti’s Curated LUXE Collection.
These will be the hand-selected images that we feel deserve to be elevated above all others in telling the story of each couple’s wedding celebration.
They represent the imagery where our artistic vision is most fully realized — the photographs that carry the emotional weight, elegance, and atmosphere of the day.
These are the images that define the legacy of a wedding story.
A New Standard of Experience
With the introduction of the LUXE Line also comes an evolution in the overall experience we offer our clients.
Our pricing structure, services, product offerings, and delivery process will all be receiving a thoughtful upgrade as we will be limiting our wedding bookings to just 15 clients that truly appreciate our vibe, aesthetic and approach to the importance of capturing the events we are hired to be stewards of documenting come 2027 with already 5 booked and growing – so to say this is being well received is definitely an understatement as we have been asked to explore rebuilding a new atheistic and color grade which exudes classic timeless elegance.
Not because what we offered before wasn’t exceptional.
But because we believe the experience should match the level of artistry we are creating.
From the first conversation…
to the contract…
to the moment the shutter clicks…
to the final curated album placed in your hands…
our goal is to create a photography experience that feels elevated, personal, and deeply intentional.
The way something feels to hold.
The way something is packaged.
The way something is presented.
These things matter.
They shape how memories are experienced and preserved.
The level of care we are designing into this next chapter of The Regeti’s is inspired by brands that understand the importance of craftsmanship, presentation, and thoughtful detail.
Not in a way that feels flashy or excessive.
But in a way that feels refined, deliberate, and worthy of the moment it represents.
Because weddings deserve to be treated that way.
Why Albums Will Always Matter

One of the strongest beliefs we hold as photographers is that wedding photographs should live beyond a screen.
They should be touched.
Shared.
Opened again years later.
A wedding album is not just a product.
It is the first family heirloom created in a marriage.
It becomes the story your children will someday turn the pages of.
And for that reason, moving forward no couple will ever walk away from working with The Regeti’s without something to have and to hold pushing into 2027, part of a professional photography experience is more than just pushing the shutter button and uploading files to be downloaded and stored on cloud.
Albums will remain an essential part of the experience we provide.
Because photographs deserve to exist in a form that can be lived with, not just scrolled past.
Continuing to Work With the Clients Who Inspire Us
Over the years we have been incredibly fortunate to work with couples and families who value artistry, culture, and storytelling as much as we do.
Clients who understand that photography is not just documentation.
It is interpretation.
It is perspective.
It is legacy.
As we move into this next chapter with our aesthetic and the introduction of the TR LUXE Line, our goal is to continue working with the kinds of clients who truly connect with and understand that vision.
People who appreciate not just the images themselves, but the intention behind them.
Couples who want their wedding story told with depth, care, and artistry.
This Isn’t a Trend — It’s an Evolution
At first, many people thought this aesthetic shift was just another trend.
But the more we watch the industry evolve, the clearer it becomes.
This isn’t temporary.
It reflects something deeper happening in the wedding world.
South Asian weddings are no longer on the fringe of the global wedding conversation.
They are helping shape it.
The influence of Indian fashion, ceremony, and storytelling is now visible everywhere — from couture runways to editorial bridal magazines.
And photography is evolving alongside that influence.
For us, this new aesthetic doesn’t replace the vibrancy of South Asian weddings.
It elevates it.

And with the introduction of The Regeti’s Curated LUXE Line, we’re excited to step fully into that next chapter — continuing to tell our clients’ stories with the care, artistry, and immersive experience they deserve.
Let’s Talk About Your Wedding Story
If you’ve read this and something in it resonates with you — the artistry, the intention, the cultural awareness, the way photography should feel — then we would love to start a conversation.
Every wedding we photograph begins the same way.
Not with a package.
Not with a price list.
But with a conversation.
Because no two South Asian or fusion weddings are ever the same.
The traditions.
The family dynamics.
The number of events.
The cultural balance between two worlds.
All of it deserves to be understood before a proposal is ever built.
If our vision speaks to you, reach out and schedule a consultation with us. From there we will learn about your celebration, listen to what matters most to you, and build a custom proposal designed specifically around your needs, your priorities, and the story you want your wedding to tell.
Resources We Created for Brides Like You
If you’re earlier in the planning process, we’ve also created resources designed to support you well beyond photography.
Our guide Rituals & Reflections was written to help South Asian and fusion brides approach wedding planning with clarity and intention before the logistics begin.
Our upcoming visual field guide RENDERED goes even deeper into the modern South Asian wedding experience — helping brides understand the cultural dynamics, expectations, and emotional realities that often exist behind the beauty of the celebration.
RENDERED will officially release on May 21, 2026 — our 26th wedding anniversary.
And because this book is deeply personal to us, we’re doing something special for the early supporters.
If you subscribe to the South Asian Wedded Life newsletter at sawl.life, you’ll receive access to the exclusive presale link, where we will personally sign and ship your copy with love before the public release.
For those who participate in the presale, there’s an additional benefit.
Our course REHEARSED — The South Asian Bride’s Pre-Wedding Walkthrough & Planning Companion will be debuting in the fall.
And RENDERED presale readers will receive a private code for a special discount on the course — an offer that will be available exclusively to those who purchase during the presale.
The idea behind all of these resources is simple.
We don’t just talk about the South Asian wedding experience.
We invest in helping couples understand it.
Why This Work Matters to Us
For nearly two decades we have stood inside some of the most beautiful celebrations imaginable.
Under mandaps.
Inside gurdwaras.
In ballrooms.
Temples.
Churches.
Backyards.
We’ve witnessed the way cultures meet, families merge, and traditions evolve in real time.
We’ve seen the beauty.
And we’ve seen the pressure.
That perspective has shaped the way we photograph weddings and the way we serve our clients.
Because South Asian and fusion weddings deserve photographers who don’t just show up with cameras.
They deserve photographers who understand the culture, respect the traditions, and know how to move within the rhythm of these celebrations with confidence and care.

When You’re Ready
If you’re looking for photographers who bring both artistic vision and cultural understanding to your celebration, we would be honored to be part of your wedding story.
Reach out.
Let’s have a conversation.
Tell us about your events, your families, and the experience you want your wedding to become.

From there, we’ll build a proposal designed specifically for you — and begin creating the images that will one day become the first heirloom of your marriage.
