Rachael & Brett: Engaged in the Cherry Blossoms, Washington D.C.

How fortunate we were today to spend time at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC with two amazing clients who came in from New York for their engagement session with us and all we could do is hope that we were blessed with a little bit of beautiful weather. Let’s just say that luck was on our side as we spent the evening with Rachael and Brett capturing some great shots while the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom.

Since this was the first time we met the two of them it made it that much more exciting as now we are truly eager to be covering their upcoming August wedding this year which will be creatively designed and coordinated by the ever so talented Julie Savage Parekh of Strawberry Milk Events at the Four Seasons in Baltimore, Maryland.

Rachael and Brett, we thank you for taking the time out of your schedules to spend a couple hours with us, we hope that you love some of these shots just as much as we do and can’t wait to meet again in August!

(On a side note: We thought that for those preparing to or considering the Cherry Blossoms for engagement photos in the future, it is important to plan, plan, plan…. did we mention plan? While the blossoms are beautiful the fact is that there are over 1.2 million tourists in Washington DC at this time of the year wanting to enjoy the blossoms so be prepared to endure the crowd. With the crowd comes parking and with finding parking anywhere you can get it – comes a little bit of a walk to get to your destination for your photo shoot, it is recommended by the Regeti’s that you wear flats and bring heels 😉 Lastly, if you aren’t familiar with the area it is always best to park at a local hotel or parking garage and catch a cab to your destination – this avoids the frustration and arguments along with a little sweating that can happen to a great couple within an hour before their session. Luckily Rachael and Brett avoided all this, but it is really important to know all this in advance – in order to avoid what may come, cheers!)

Sundays were made for slowing down… and for tuning back into you.

If the week has been full of opinions, expectations, or decisions that feel heavier than joyful, consider this your gentle reminder: you’re allowed to pause. You’re allowed to breathe. And you’re absolutely allowed to plan a wedding that feels like yours at its core.

This little moment from Rituals & Reflections always feels right on a day like today:

“Your wedding will ask many things of you — patience, presence, compromise…
but the one thing it will never take from you is your voice.”

So if today is your planning day, give yourself permission to approach it with clarity, calm, and softness.

And if you ever need a little guidance along the way… We’re right here. ✨

This one broke my heart… and shook something deeper.

When I read about the tragic killing of Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, I felt grief —
but like so many brown and immigrant families, I also felt fear.

The man who took her life was brown.

And history has taught us exactly what happens next.
Backlash.
Suspicion.
Stereotypes.
Innocent families paying for one man’s evil.

So in today’s episode of SAWL, I opened up a conversation that so many have quietly held inside:

💔 Why tragedies like this hit brown families differently
💔 The fear of being blamed for something you had NOTHING to do with
💔 What it means to raise brown children in moments like this
💔 And why we must not let this spark more hate

If you’ve ever felt this fear — or if you’re hearing it for the first time —
you need to watch this one.
