Mark’s High School Senior Portraits

As the 2011 Class rose up this year and all the new grads are hitting the world with a running start we were able to meet quite a few aspiring grads and are truly excited about their futures! Every time we have the honor of photographing a high school senior not only do we have a lot of fun as the shoot carries on, but to hear them talk about their dreams and where they are headed is equally as exciting. Mark has hope to complete a degree in engineering and will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall. We wish you all the best Mark and hope that you will stay in touch!

Living between two worlds isn’t easy — even after 30 years of it.

One thing I’ve learned being married into an Indian family is this:

You can love a culture deeply… without carrying the emotional weight of all its expectations.

Sometimes we take on roles — mediator, peacemaker, translator — simply because we’re the ones who “get it.”

For me, it was the outsider who somehow became the interpreter — the person South Asian brides turn to when they’re carrying more than they can say out loud.

It’s taken nearly 30 years inside this culture, loving it, learning it, laughing with it, and growing through it…
but I wouldn’t trade a single lesson.

For me, it was the outsider who somehow became the interpreter — the person South Asian brides turn to when they’re carrying more than they can say out loud.

It’s taken nearly 30 years inside this culture, loving it, learning it, laughing with it, and growing through it…
but I wouldn’t trade a single lesson.
